Reproduction and Restoration

We are classically trained in the art of historic carving and joinery, rooted in traditional techniques that have endured for centuries. Our methods and tools remain unchanged, offering a unique expertise in bench joinery and surface finishes, to ensure sympathetic and conscientious repairs, preserving the integrity of your object and bringing it back to its former beauty.

We have clients in both the public and private sectors, including conservation/restoration firms, antiques dealers, architects and interior designers. Whether you need a full reproduction of a piece or require alterations, consolidations, or recarving of missing elements, we will discuss the best approach to any enquiry.

We have replaced architectural elements on listed buildings and reproduced entire pieces of furniture for heritage clients such as The National Trust using historic joinery techniques. We have repaired pilasters, corbels, mirror frames, mantelpieces and pelmets, as well as antique furniture and sculptures.

Our Process

We will consult with our clients about the best and most considerate approach to a restoration project, and understand the complexities of dealing with historic objects.

Whenever feasible, we exclusively employ hand tools and adhere to time-honored techniques, to ensure that antique and historic pieces are repaired authentically.

We like to produce samples, especially when trying to emulate an aged or distressed surface finish. If we are not able to loan the original object in our studio, we will usually work from photographs to produce scale drawings and clay maquettes before embarking on the carving.
